Signatories to the Gold Principles represent the full gold value chain

Signatories to the Gold Industry Declaration of Responsibility and Sustainability Principles represent the full gold value chain from mine to market.

The Declaration was launched in October 2022 with 14 founding Signatories. Through the Declaration, the Signatories share a commitment to operating in a responsible and sustainable way based on a clear set of shared Principles.

The Signatory group is referred to as the Gold Principles Group and meets quarterly. The Terms of Reference for the Gold Principles Group can be downloaded here.

Artisanal Gold Council

The Artisanal Gold Council (AGC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming artisanal and small-scale gold mining into a formalized, environmentally sound, and socially responsible sector that supplies Responsible Artisanal Gold™ to markets globally.

Established in 2008, the AGC’s mission is to improve the livelihoods and well-being of artisanal and small-scale gold miners. It advises governments and industry on policy, solutions, national action plans, and institutional capacity for the transformation of the artisanal gold mining sector. It mitigates health and environmental issues through education, improved processes, best practices, and capacity building.

The AGC follows an ‘engage to improve’ approach that seeks to empower miners, improve their health and wellbeing and support artisanal and small-scale gold mining communities to thrive. It focuses in four main areas: Mercury reduction, Enhancing gold recovery, Gender equity, and Access to markets.

The AGC’s global team has implemented projects in over 30 countries, partnering with more than 25 international agencies to build 15 mercury-free processing facilities and support more than 200,000 miners.
